Synopsis[]
Raelle prepares to show her ability to the top brass, while Abigail struggles with her new role. Tally begins to question her unsettling dreams. Anacostia and Scylla form a plan to infiltrate the enemy further.
Plot[]
Sarah Alder tries to get President Kelly Wade to order every young woman of age to report to testing centers as a possible witch. However, neither she nor Vice President Blanton Silver are happy with the idea and Silver tells Alder that Wade will not sign any such order.
Raelle, Abigail and Tally are brought before a woman called the Imperatrix and told that they are to attend the Paragon Reception to narrow down their choices of men to further their bloodline. Raelle, however, is resistant of the process and demonstrates a new ability to speak in Méníshè despite having had almost no formal schooling, a result of her connection to the Mycelium.
Raelle is tested to see if the unusual sound she made is a match for any of the seeds on file at Fort Salem. Elsewhere, in the wider world, anti-witch sentiment spreads, with a girl named Brianna being told that she can't play with her friend Tiffany anymore due to her being a witch. Tally continues to experience strange visions of Sarah Alder's history with a woman named Nicte Batan. She has a terrible nightmare of a large group of people killing themselves, followed by Nicte accusing Alder of having stolen her Work.
