Plot[]

Raelle sleeps at Scylla's house and they wake up kissing to the sunlight. Raelle starts to ask Scylla about where she came from, but Scylla only response with vague answers. She said that she moved around a lot as a child and that neither one of her parents served in the army. Raelle leaves coldly only giving a cheek kiss.

The U.S. President, Kelly Wade, meets with General Alder, demanding more answers related to The Spree. Alder explains that they now recognize a "Spree signature", most recently at a bus bomb attack in Kiev. Their attacks can be noticed because the trigger is anything that holds air, like a balloon or bottle. The President demands more answers and results.

In the cafeteria, Raelle admits that she missed inspection and says Anacostia gave her guard duty for that evening. Tally sees a friend from home that she recognizes. Anacostia announces that the top five ranked units will get a trip to Salem and some non-supervised time off base.

Anacostia walks with General Alder, discussing important matters about the cadets and The Spree. She tells Anacostia that she has taken an official interest in the "Bellweather unit" after their performance in the vocals class.

Abigail enters the training hall and starts to fight with Libba. It's clear that they had met before and have a long running feud, which we find out later is because their mothers hated each other in war college. Abigail explains that Libba danced with her cavalier in front of her before she had the chance to at her debut party- which in her world, is like a declaration of war.

Anacostia teaches them how to deflect attacks using the spell, Windshear. They train for a while and later move on to learn the spell, Windstrike.

Lieutenant Graves, a Necro sophomore cadet, taps on Raelle's shoulder in the hallway, they have guard duty together. They chat and upon hearing that Graves is also in Necro, Raelle says she has a special Necro in her life - Scylla. She explains why Scylla might be acting weird - it might be because she is a Necro or because of what happened to her parents. The Lieutenant says Raelle can get off of guard duty and she can cover for her to Anacostia, but Raelle says she's okay and continues on her patrol. Raelle walks away and Lieutenant Graves burns her face off to become Scylla.

Tally calls her mom to thank her for a combat charm she sent. Her mom tells her that Fort Salem is a death sentence and that she should come home. Tally hangs up on her.

The unit does well enough to go to the pageant in Gallow Hills in Salem Town, Massachusetts. They board a bus and get off in Salem, where they walk around, buying candies and souvenirs.

In Salem, there is a performance about Sarah Adler, in chains and about to be hung on a noose. In the performance, the townspeople let Sarah's mouth go free to hear her final words before her death. She sings. The performance ends with Alder and the local leaders signing a petition saying that all future witches will be enrolled at Fort Salem to serve in the army.

Raelle sees Abigail walk off during the performance and Raelle follows her. They get pizza. Tally, Glory, and Scylla walk in and Raelle finally introduces Scylla to her friends. Someone screams at the pizza parlor that The_Spree are there and that there is a balloon. Everyone screams and runs. One man is rude to Tally, blaming her and all witches for the actions of the Spree. Tally loses her temper and pushes him down with Windstrike. Later they find out that a civilian let a balloon loose and it was all a false alarm.

Scylla and Raelle walk off into the forest and Scylla shows her how Necros work. She makes a mushroom bloom from a dead bird and explains that death is more complicated than people think. She also apologizes for the other day and confesses that she doesn't talk about herself very easily. They kiss under the moonlight.

Meanwhile, in the war room, Alder and her associates gather. They receive intel about The Spree in Kiev, instructing a team to enter the factory. The building is rigged with a trap and a bottle bursts, killing the witches, including the daughter of General Clary. Alder says they will bring them to justice but her associates, Clary in particular, challenge her and demand more extreme methods. General Clary walks off in tears, mourning her daughter.

Alone in a room at Fort Salem, Scylla looks into the mirror which reflects a blue balloon (as seen in the pilot) and says "She's mine", in reference to Raelle. She asks the balloon what to do next and it says "Stay the course". Scylla says she wants extraction to happen soon because she's impatient and the balloon tells her to get closer. As she steps forward, the balloon shatters the mirror, frightening Scylla.
